College Park Video Closing July 1, 2008 -
After 23 years of serving College Park, College Park Video will be closing its doors on July 1st. Contrary to the article in the Orlando Sentinel on May 14th, the family owned video store is NOT closing due to economic reasons. The building where College Park Video has its lease is owned by the Demetree family, and the corporation has given all the tenants in the building their “end of lease” notice. Demetree’s plans for the building are unknown at this time, but the vacating of the building will also close the doors of Planet Smoothie, Rosa’s Alterations, and the Brother’s Keeper Thrift Store that feeds the hungry and helps the needy. ~ more

City Commissioner Robert Stuart and Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando residents headed to work motor-free on May 16th, as the City of Orlando celebrated the almost 230 miles of bikeways and bike lanes by participating in National Bike Month with the Mayor’s proclamation of May 16 as "Bike to Work Day." As part of this event, Starbucks partnered with the City and offered free coffee at ALL Orlando area Starbucks locations to anyone who commuted by bicycle and brought a mug on Bike To Work Day. Designated a Bicycle Friendly Community since 2000, Orlando promotes bicycling as a form of transportation by incorporating complete streets policies to make roads safe and accessible to all users; giving away locks, lights, helmets and reconditioned bikes; starting the Pedal for Pride bike ride with the Parramore Kidz Zone and working directly with the Orlando Police Department to provide education, safety training and enforcement for bicycling.
