Tap Room at Dubsdread Wins 5th Foodie Award Recognized As “Best Outdoor Dining” in Orlando Area

The Orlando Sentinel announced that the popular restaurant and catering facility located at the Historic Dubsdread Golf Course was selected by Sentinel Food Critic Heather McPherson as “Best Outdoor Dining” in Orlando.

General Manager Barbara Teal said she and her staff were “ecstatic and proud” to have been selected for the honor. In addition to being named “Critics Choice”, The Tap Room also was runner up as the “Readers Choice” selection – an honor voted on by Sentinel Readers. Having won the “Best Burger” in Orlando award four previous times, winning this award was a “long awaited addition to the award wall”, according to Barbara.

Steve Gunter, one of the partners in the operation, says “We are truly excited – we always felt we should be in the running with the natural beauty of the property – the 100 year old oaks and the beautiful landscaping- there is really nothing like it in the area and we are thrilled Ms. McPherson agreed!! I also think the fact that we have such a year round situation with a full roof covering, cooling fans for the summer, and heaters for the winter, also make our outdoor dining such an enjoyable experience year round. You’re not under an umbrella – you have a structure around the verandah. People like that.”

Congratulations to The Tap Room for bringing this prestigious award to College Park!

Lucky Stuff Thrift Store - Sorry, but last month we reported the incorrect address for Lucky Stuff Thrift Store! In this economy, it’s great to find what you need that is a bargain! Lucky Stuff is located at 5638 Edgewater Drive, which is close to the intersection of Forest City Road and Edgewater. Some of the proceeds from the sales goes to Anthony House for the Homeless, and to Brother’s Keeper which feeds needy families. www.LuckyStuffStore.com or call 407-802-8544.

METROPLAN ORLANDO LAUNCHES NEW INTERACTIVE WEB SITE
(Online tool provides interactive opportunities for public input and
transportation information by visiting www.metroplanorlando.com)

METROPLAN ORLANDO recently launched a new interactive Web site component dedicated to its 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan, which sets the vision for transportation projects and policy in Central Florida. The Web site features an educational component, along with several features to provide Central Floridians an opportunity to give instant feedback from the comfort of home. Users can also access technical documents, reports, and presentations.

“Ultimately, this component of the 2030 long range planning process gives us a great interactive tool,” said Osceola County Chairman John Quiñones, who also serves as chairman of the METROPLAN ORLANDO Board. “Not only are we able to provide instant information, we’re also able to receive direct feedback from all corners of the region.”

The Web site includes a variety of features, including rotating surveys, a question of the month, technical documents, and a comprehensive photo/video gallery from public outreach events in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties.

METROPLAN ORLANDO launched an intensive public outreach process back in October 2007 to compliment technical work underway on the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan. Outreach includes a series of Community Conversations throughout Central Florida. Each Community Conversation includes a brief presentation and an opportunity to play an interactive game called “Connect I-4,” which challenges players to set transportation priorities for the region. To date, nearly 1200 people have participated, between the ages of 15 and 93. Additionally, METROPLAN ORLANDO debuted a unique feedback tool called the Transportation Plan Cam. The video segments include responses to a variety of transportation-related questions and are ultimately featured during regular board meetings.

To visit the new Web site, go to www.metroplanorlando.com and click on the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan image. Visitors can leave feedback and request a Community Conversations program.
