Cavanaugh’s Fine Wines, the wine store and bar that some consider to be a hidden gem in College Park, has been sold to Rob Chase. Chase was formerly a distributor of wines and is excited to be taking over for previous owner, Jay Smith.
Smith, who has run the cozy neighborhood business for nearly 20 years will be retiring and taking the time to relax from the wine industry. Cavanaugh’s features remarkable bottles for purchase, a semi-private wine room, a custom-built bar and lounging areas. The business was created because of Smith’s passion for wine, and Chase plans to carry on the legacy.
His approach to management includes giving Cavanaugh’s a face-lift and extending hours. Chase said he’s familiar with College Park and thinks people will appreciate the lively atmosphere that he plans to bring to the unique store.
