LETTER FROM ANNE GEIGER, OCPS SCHOOL BOARD
SPOTLIGHT ON OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS-ACADEMICS RULE !
by Anne Geiger, Orange County School Board, District 6
LAKE SILVER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is a school that celebrates reading!
Their second annual Families Building Better Readers night will be held Thursday, October 4th from 5:30-8:30.
From Reading Coach Jennifer Borrelli, “This parent workshop is designed for parents of students in grades K-3 and is fun for the whole family! After a delicious dinner, parents and students will attend mini-workshops with faculty members, all designed to help set families up to practice reading at home. The evening culminates with a performance by the students, demonstrating what they‚ve learned. Lake Silver is proud to have donors and partners who allow us to feed dinner to our families and offer door prizes! To register your Lake Silver family, call 407.245.1850 x321.”
Principal Cindy Dodge puts muscle into the belief that reading is the foundation of all learning!
PRINCETON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’s Principal Shayne Grove, “Princeton tied for 4th place in the entire district (K-12) for
learning gains as measured by the FCAT, for school year 2006-07.”
Congratulations and many thanks to our great teachers who create a learning environment where all children love to learn!
LEE MIDDLE SCHOOL now has two grade levels in its International Baccalaureate Middle Years program (MYP). There are currently 150 MYP students in the 6th and 7th grades, twenty of whom are Magnet students. Principal Tom Pylant, “In order to receive the Middle Years Program (MYP) certification, we will be observed by a visiting team of International educators October 29th and 30th. We are very excited about the opportunity to receive this very prestigious designation for our school.” In addition, Lee Middle has adopted the Springboard Curriculum for all Language Arts classes. This is the same curriculum that is used at Edgewater High School.
Preparation is the key to success in college preparatory and college-level Advanced Placement courses in high school. Lee Middle is clearly dedicated to this principle!
Great appreciation goes out to the dedicated parents and community members who contribute so much through the PTA’s in our elementary and middle schools. You volunteer in the classroom, serve as chaperones on field trips, raise supplementary funds, and work extremely hard during special events. You are also instrumental in helping to prepare our students for academic success in high school and beyond. Thank you for making a difference!
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions, concerns or ideas.
