EHS Crew Attends Sight & Sole Fundraiser, Shares Rowing Tips with Team Unity

At the March 29 Sight & Sole fundraising walk for Lighthouse of Central Florida, Edgewater High School Crew members got acquainted with Team Unity, a group of visually impaired teens associated with the Lighthouse Transitions program. After a training session, the rowers walked with Unity members around Crane's Roost as part of the fundraiser. Then everyone was off to Edgewater's boathouse on Lake Fairview.

There, EHS Crew introduced Team Unity to rowing. A member of one team was paired with a member of the other, and together they worked out on rowing machines. They also lifted, flipped, explored and even floated the long, bladelike boats used in the sport. Finally, the Unity teens waded into the lake, boarded the boats and did some rowing in place.

It was an exhilarating day for everyone, and more fun is planned for May 3, when Unity team members return to Lake Fairview to build on their experiences.

At the FSRA Youth Championship on April 26 and 27, as well as Southeast Regionals on May 10 and 11 (both to be held in Tampa), Edgewater Crew will be rowing with an eye to earning a return to Oak Ridge for the Scholastic Nationals competition on Memorial Day weekend.
