LEE MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS - June 2009
A HUGE “THANK YOU!” for THE CEREAL PROJECT AT LEE MIDDLE
Last month we reported that Marcia Fletcher Kazmi had stopped at Lee Middle School and talked with Cindy Shaw Whitefield - their ‘SAFE coordinator. Marcia found out there are still many needs for the homeless children and those in shelters. Many who are now in homes have had parents lose their jobs and are on the verge of homelessness. Marcia asked her what she could do to help. Cindy gave her a simple answer - CEREAL! “Cereal is an easy food,” she explained, “that the children can have for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even ‘the munchies’.”
With that information in hand, Marcia and her children Katie and Richard contacted their friends to collect Cereal. The Kazmi’s delivered 565 boxes of cereal and 164 jars of Peanut Butter to the Lee Middle School SAFE Program!
Marcia stated, “It was so exciting to pull up with two SUV’s full of cereal! The community response to this Lee Middle School CEREAL BOX Project has been incredible!!!”
School is out on June 3rd and resumes August 24th. Unfortunately, the SAFE PROGRAM was eliminated by half due to budget cuts for next year. The Good news is Cindy and the College Park community will still be there to help the children!
Thank you for helping us with “The Cereal Project” for Lee Middle School children!
