ORLANDO POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME ALERT

TYPE OF CRIME: Residential Burglaries

LOCATION: South College Park area

INFORMATION: Recently there have been several residential burglaries in the South College Park area. The majority of the residential burglaries occurred between 7:30 am -1:00 pm. The items that are being targeted include any and all valuables.

You can reduce your risk of becoming a victim by doing the following:

- Utilize your neighborhood watch phone chain.
- Secure all doors and windows, even if you are only going to be gone for a few minutes.
- Activate a residential alarm system, if your home has one.
- Keep valuables in a secure location within the home.
- Report any suspicious activity or person(s). You, the resident, know what activity is normal for your area. Call 911 when someone is acting suspicious.
- Be alert to your surroundings and get to know your neighbors.
- Write down serial numbers of important property.
- Utilize exterior lighting. (It only costs approximately $1.00 per month to keep a porch light on all night!)
- Participate in Citizens for Neighborhood Watch program.
- While away from your home for vacation or other reasons, forward your telephone to a family member, have a neighbor collect your mail, put the garbage curbside, and retrieve any newspapers/solicitations from your property.
- Make sure you have serial numbers recorded for the property that you own

BUSINESS WATCH - Business owners are alerted about suspicious persons and potential shoplifters. It also provides training and information for employees that can help prevent crime and possible injury. Employees and owners are taught what to do in the case of a robbery and how to handle thefts, shoplifting, forgery, credit card fraud, counterfeit money and other situations.
