Patti MacLeish Gordon was recently honored at the Rotary Club of Orlando for her dedication as a teacher who “goes over and above” to educate her students at Princeton Elementary School. Superintendent Ronald Blocker was present and congratulated Patti on her dedication to her students, their parents, her school, the community, and to Orange County Public Schools. Patti has also been selected for Central Florida Lifestyle Publications’ Top Teachers 2009. She will be featured in the June edition of Lifestyle Magazine and at www.CentralFlorida-Lifestyle.com.
A 17-year veteran instructor, she is certified in Elementary Education and has her Gifted Endorsement, A Masters Degree in Elementary School Counseling and recently earned her National Board Certification. National Board Certification is more than just adding a set of initials after your name; it is the highest symbol of professional teaching excellence. Becoming a National Board Certified Teacher attests to the fact that you have been judged by your peers as one who is accomplished in your field.
“Patti is instrumental in the success of our school community,” says principal Shayne Grove. “As the gifted education teacher she is a liaison for success that our parents/students depend on for a continuum of services. She is able to routinely calm parent fears while providing excellent strategies for student/parent success at home and school. She not only founded our school’s Science Club, she coordinates and teaches in the program. Through her leadership and enthusiasm, over 125 students volunteer to participate in the Science Club after school.”
The environment is a passion for Patti and this shows through her “Green Team” initiative. Ms. Grove states that “Patti has spearheaded a complete ecological change for our school. Through her many community and school projects, Patti teaches all of us that we can make a difference.” Although Patti is always willing to step up and take a leadership role, it is her relationships with students, teachers, and parents that make her special. She is a Christian woman who others want to emulate. She has a huge heart and a passion for educating children with skills that will last throughout their lifetime.
