From the Desk of City Commissioner Robert Stuart

Dear Friends,

It's been another busy month in District 3 and around Orlando's City Hall. Ever since I joined the City Council in June, it seems like it's been a whirlwind of activity.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Mayor Dyer and Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty announced the completion of the preliminary negotiations surrounding the Community Venues (Events Center, Citrus Bowl, and the Performing Arts Center). As a result of my last letter, I received many great comments about these venues' locations, especially the Events Center, overwhelmingly supporting a Downtown Orlando location. The Mayors, along with both the City Council and Orange County Commission, have reminded everyone that much is still to be accomplished to create these great venues. However, we have jumped the first hurdle and are excited about the possibilities of adding these centers for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.

Over the next few weeks, the City Council and County Commission will see specific presentations on the financial package and eventual site locations. These meetings will be open to the public, so please attend if you have an interest. If you have any questions, or just want to express your opinion, please write me. For more information, you can log onto www.CityofOrlando.net or www.projecthometown.org.

On September 30th, we hosted our first District 3 Leadership Forum at the Orlando Science Center. The event was kicked off by Mayor Buddy Dyer and local elected officials surrounding our theme of “Communication, Cooperation, and Coordination” between local jurisdictions (city, county, school board, state and federal). There were three special breakout sessions: Growth Management/Planning, Public Safety, and Public Works/Transportation. Each session outlined the role that the City plays in these areas and how Orlando works together with other jurisdictions to serve our community. For more information on the District 3 Leadership Forum, check out our new District 3 Web Site at www.cityoforlando.net.

That's right, we are introducing a new web site for Orlando District 3. Our goal is to provide the latest information on what's going on in District 3, from Rosemont to Baldwin and all of the parks in between! We'll include stories on things like the District 3 Leadership Forum, the monthly newsletters and even a community calendar. Check it out by clicking on www.cityoforlando.net. Once there, click on the City Council link and then my name, and you will be able to access it from that page.

Fall Festivals are underway and we are pleased to provide our staff to help make your event a success. On October 21st, Downtown College Park Partnership hosted the Scarecrow Ball and Jazz-for-All from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown College Park. Audubon Park Elementary School hosted their Fall Festival on October 21st as well; Lake Silver Elementary School hosted their event on Thursday, October 26th at 5:30 p.m. and Orwin Manor Neighborhood Association had their Fall Festival on Sunday, October 29th at 3 p.m.

As autumn arrives, I'm excited about the crispness it the air. When the cooler weather arrives, take some time and enjoy the outdoors. Orlando is a great place to live, work and play!

As always, it's an honor to serve you and I look forward to seeing you all around District 3 in the coming months.

Robert
