From the Desk of City Commissioner Robert Stuart

Dear College Park Neighbors,
While there is always much to do in Orlando, the holidays are a special time with unique events taking place in College Park and around the City. I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some December happenings that may serve as a good way for you to spend time with family, friends and neighbors.

November 22 through January 2, every day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Leu’s Holiday House at Beautiful Leu Gardens will feature the Leu House Museum decked out for the holidays.

November 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. – The History Center Holiday at Heritage Square will take place downtown in Heritage Square outside Orange County Regional History Center and will feature a festive Victorian Holiday celebration as well as the lighting of the Square.

December 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.—The Annual Holiday on the Drive, hosted by the Downtown College Park Partnership, will take place on Edgewater Drive between Smith and Winter Park and will feature live entertainment, horse and carriage rides and of course, Santa!

December 5 at 5 p.m.. – Holiday Lights Orlando, hosted by Mayor Dyer and the City of Orlando, will take place at Orlando City Hall and will feature a holiday sing-a-long, a performance by a group from the Mad Cow Theatre, Santa Claus, and the lighting of the City Christmas tree.

December 15 beginning at 10:30 a.m. – The Jingle Bell Dog Jog and the Orlando Christmas Parade will take place in Downtown Orlando. The dog jog is just what it sounds like, is open to the public and will raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. The winners of the jog will be invited to take part in the parade, which will begin at 11:30 a.m., and will be hosted by Andrea Jackson from the Daily Buzz and comedian Michael Jr.

There is much more. Please take a moment to check out the District 3 calendar located on our webpage at www.CityofOrlando.net/District3. If your group’s activities are not listed, just e-mail my office and we’ll help get the word out.

Also during this busy shopping season, please also keep in mind ways that you can help to prevent crime during the holidays. If you must use an ATM, choose one that is located inside a police station, mall, or well-lighted location and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car. Lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight.

Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, don’t go alone. When approaching and leaving your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings and keep your keys in your hands. And always Be Prepared, Be Aware, Be Safe, and Be Careful!

As we give thanks for all of our many blessings, please allow me to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your city commissioner. Know that I do not take the privilege lightly and am thankful for your support of our shared community. During these festive times, please enjoy your family, friends and our Great City!

Robert
