From the Desk of City Commissioner Robert Stuart

Dear College Park Neighbor,

Winter has arrived, or at least it feels like that on some days in Central Florida.
As you may have read in last month’s edition, last December’s Edgewater Drive Walkabout recognized both assets and opportunities along the Edgewater Drive corridor. In addition, we collected important information and documentation which will serve as the jumping off point to create a vision that manages future growth. Now it is time for the 11-member task force, with the public’s help and input, to analyze what they learned and to identify specific steps to implement changes for an improved Edgewater Drive.

This information will be evaluated in public meetings that will take place during the next five months. Each meeting will focus on a specific topic so that each one can be vetted and analyzed thoroughly. All meetings will be held from 3:30 – 5 p.m. and will take place at City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue in the 2nd Floor conference rooms. The current schedule is as follows:
February 7 & 21 - Urban Form
March 6 & 20 - Transportation/Parking
April 3 & 17 - Pedestrian Friendliness
May 8 & 22 - Architectural Details
June 5 & 19 - Finance and other Issues

And while our hearts are always in College Park, there are alot of great things happening throughout District 3 and in our Great City. With that in mind, I wanted to share with you some fun events that are taking place around Orlando in February.

On February 2nd, the City will host its second annual Blues B-Q. Come join us for this free concert in front of City Hall and enjoy great barbecue and blues music from 2-10 p.m. Then, on February 10th, enjoy “Music in the Gazebo” at Langford Park starting at 1:00 p.m.

Remember that February 14th is Valentine’s Day. Why not do something a little different for your sweetheart and enjoy an evening at Leu Gardens. That evening, you can pack a picnic basket and enjoy a concert under the stars, at 7 p.m., featuring Michael Andrew and Swinghead. Or, if Latin music is more to your liking, you can head over to Lake Eola Amphitheatre at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy a free concert with Argentine band Otros Aires. For details, please check out Orlando’s website: www.CityofOrlando.net.

For the many College Park dog lovers, the SPCA will be hosting its annual “Paws in the Park” event at Lake Eola from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 16th. And finally, our Orlando Museum of Art will be hosting its annual Antique Show and Sale from Friday, February 22 through Sunday, February 24.

So if you want to enjoy the great February weather, please venture out with your family and friends and reacquaint yourself with some of the unique amenities that Orlando has to offer!

Robert
