From the Desk of City Commissioner Robert Stuart
Dear College Park Neighbors,
Many months ago, the City of Orlando, in cooperation with the St. John’s River Water Management District and the Florida Department of Transportation, embarked on a major project to respond to the needs of the Dubsdread neighborhood. This important project included renovating the Historic Dubsdread Golf Course. On behalf of Mayor Dyer, I want to express our sincere appreciation to the entire Orlando community for their support of the revitalization of this Orlando jewel.
After reviewing plans and receiving community input, we are now excited to report that the construction phase of this project will begin on March 12th with a Grand Re-Opening of Historic Dubsdread in November 2007.
As we look toward the next few weeks before closing, there are some important dates of which we wanted the community to be aware:
March 3, 2007 – City of Orlando Public Auction – The City will be auctioning off five golf course front lots and two golf course view lots in beautiful Dubsdread. The auction will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Dubsdread Banquet Room. We wanted to let everyone know of this unique opportunity to own a piece of Historic Dubsdread.
March 9, 2007 – "Farewell" Dubsdread Golf Tournament – Before the renovation process begins, some of the regular patrons of the course are hosting a "farewell" golf tournament to honor the old course one more time before enhancements are made. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at noon and proceeds will directly benefit the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association (OMYGA). For more information about the golf tournament, please contact Dubsdread Golf Course at (407) 246-2551 or check out their web site at www.dubsdreadgolf.com.
March 12, 2007 – Golf Course Closed for Re-Construction – Prince Construction, the contractor managing the golf course renovation, will begin site preparation and golf course construction promptly on March 12. And thanks to the recommendations of the active Golf Course Renovation Committee, citizens will be able to log onto our City’s Public Works web site (www.cityoforlando.net) for regular construction updates. As a reminder, The Tap Room and all of the banquet facilities will remain open during this construction.
March 29, 2007 – Dubsdread Community Meeting – As part of our continued commitment to providing regular construction updates, the City will host a public information meeting on the evening of Thursday, March 29 at the College Park Community Center. At the meeting, Dubsdread residents and other interested parties will have the opportunity to look at the final plans developed by our Dubsdread Golf Course Renovation Committee, as well as talk to the City staff and the construction company. Additional meeting information will be shared during the next few weeks.
Let me express my personal thanks to Mayor Dyer for his devotion to our community and our City; Kitson & Partners, LLC for their leadership on this project; to Sandy Dann, Doug Fulmer, Bert McCree and Cherie Rivett, Dubsdread’s Golf Course Renovation Committee, for their leadership and devotion to making sure we polish this jewel of Orlando; to Alan Oyler, Steve Wiedenbeck, and all of the City’s staff who have worked tirelessly on this project. Thanks especially to our Dubsdread neighborhood residents for their patience during this process and to the entire community for their support in making Dubsdread and the City of Orlando a great place to live, work and play.
As always, it is a pleasure to serve our great City and our committed and devoted citizens.

City Commissioner supports Orlando’s Illegal Gun Bounty Program
Pledges first $1,000 reward
Orlando City Commissioner Robert Stuart has pledged his support for Mayor Buddy Dyer’s latest crime prevention incentive, the Illegal Gun Bounty Program, with a promise to fund the first $1,000 reward.
"This is just one part of an entire package of crime prevention and enforcement tools," said Commissioner Stuart. "I applaud the Mayor for extending this partnership with Central Florida Crimeline to help get illegal guns off the streets of Orlando. This is a small way that the citizens of District 3 and I can help curb crime in our neighborhoods."
The Illegal Gun Bounty program is a partnership between the City of Orlando, the Orlando Police Department and Central Florida Crimeline, an organization committed to helping law enforcement agencies solve crimes and keep our communities safe by motivating citizens to provide information on felony crimes by offering financial rewards while guaranteeing anonymity.
"Even if the gun bounty program only saves one life…then this program will be declared a victory. It’s only if we can break the culture of silence and take action as a community that we will make positive progress and ensure the safety of our neighborhoods," said Mayor Dyer.
The program was announced on January 19 and already 65 tips for illegal handguns have been called into Central Florida Crimeline and are being investigated by law enforcement. A completely anonymous reward of $1,000 is given to any person who provides a tip about the whereabouts of an illegal gun that leads to an arrest and conviction in a violent crime case.
"The citizens of District 3 are very aware of the rising rate of violent crime in our community. Each weapon removed, each criminal arrested, each felon behind bars means the streets of our city are safer," emphasized Commissioner Stuart. "I would encourage our corporate and civic community to help with this project by funding just one reward. And I am asking our citizens to do their part by calling in tips regarding illegal guns."
For more information on the Mayor’s Illegal Gun Bounty program, call the Orlando Police Department at 407-246-2470, or check out Orlando’s web site (http://www.cityoforlando.net/). To report an illegal gun, contact Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (1-800-423-8477) or through their web site at http://www.cfcrimeline.com.
