—————
About BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation
Established in Orlando in 1982, their mission is to provide a year-round base of support for children and families who are facing the challenge of living with cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses.   Their programs focus on “being normal” by participating in peer groups which children, who are not affected by life-challenging illnesses, take for granted.

BASE Camp has a double meaning. It is an acronym for Believe, Achieve, Support, & Educate.  The second facet of B.A.S.E. Camp provides weekly hospital-lunch delivery, monthly overnight camps, parent-support groups, clinic parties, and weekly events that help children pass through the toughest days of treatment.  They are located at 140 North Orlando Avenue #120, Winter Park, FL 32789 Call 407-673-5060 or visit www.BASECamp.org

PLANTING SEEDS OF KNOWLEDGE
Students in the Princeton Elementary School Science Club planted their spring gardens during the February meeting. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders planted strawberries, watermelon and beans while the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students planted potatoes, corn, tomatoes, and sugar cane. The intermediate grades also learned about the different types of soil in their gardens, determined the composition of the soil and tested for acidity. Over the next few months, all of the students will monitor the growth of their crops with the anticipation of a delicious harvest before summer vacation. Teachers, parents, community members, and staff members work alongside these young scientists as they enjoyed getting their hands dirty while incorporating science and math skills.

March 2008
To celebrate Arbor Day, the Science Club planted a loquat tree and a navel orange tree donated by Appenberry's Nursery, one of Princeton's Partners in Education. These trees will enrich the environment and provide years of beauty and enjoyment for Princeton students and families.
