LAKE SILVER ELEMENTARY NEWS
Lake Silver Elementary School Students Stepping into Charity
Mr. Yuhasz's 5th grade class from Lake Silver Elementary decided to start a shoe drive. Now, you may be wondering why the shoe drive was started. Well, it was not just for fun, or to get out of class. It was to learn team work, to give to others without receiving a reward, and to think about others before yourself.

Already, over 330 of pairs of shoes have been collected. The students have really enjoyed participating in the shoe drive. A special "thank you" goes out to all Lake Silver's wonderful students and families who donated shoes and to Mr. Yuhasz for setting it all up.

Rick Ellenburg Visits Lake Silver Elementary!

Rick Ellenburg, Orange County and Florida Teacher of the Year, recently visited Lake Silver to tour the gardens on campus. Rick has won many awards because of his work at Camelot Elementary with his Science Lab and gardens. He was very impressed with the existing gardens at Lake Silver and shared some of his own ideas of how to expand the gardens and incorporate the Math Magnet themes with gardening, science, and the environment.

Lake Silver Elementary School Runs for Charity

Lake Silver Elementary School participated in the 14th annual Insurance Office of America Corporate 5K on April 24th. More than 8,000 spectators, runners, and walkers gathered at the Citrus Bowl for this event. "We encourage our students at Lake Silver Elementary through our character education program to demonstrate good character by volunteering and striving to be healthy and positive. This seems to be the perfect fit to put into practice what we teach." states Lake Silver guidance counselor, Carleen Mackin.

Lead by principal Cindy Dodge 30 employees at Lake Silver, including paraprofessionals, office staff and teachers, are geared up to walk or run to support such charities as Parramore Kidz Zone, Chrisitan Service Center, Insurance Office of America Foundation, and the Orlando Runners Club Scholarship Fund.

A Hare Raising Success for Lake Silver!

On the 15th of April, Lake Silver Elementary staff and students were treated to a visit from the Energizer Bunny Hot Hare Balloon, the largest hot air balloon in the world. With the help of teachers and the local community, the Bunny Crew, led by pilot Glo Kehoe, was able to partially inflate the 166 foot tall balloon. Students were given the opportunity to view the balloon, see a demonstration of how the balloon would be piloted, and also a chance to learn about the many interesting science and math applications.

A special "Thank You" to all the teachers and staff who showed up bright and early to help raise the bunny balloon. Also, "Thank You" to the following community partners; Dubsdread Catering, Initial Tropical Plants, and HD Supply Company for their support and assistance with this event.
