IT'S ALL STEVE'S.

On June 23, 2010, Tap Room owner Steve Gunter and his longtime business partner divided their business assets up and went their separate ways. Steve Gunter is proud to report he is now the sole owner of "his baby" - The Tap Room at Dubsdread.

Steve traded his ownership interest out in Sam Snead's and will no longer be involved with the Maitland store or the concept in general.

Steve Gunter, Tap Room at Dubsdread, Orlando, FL

Steve reports that his decision to pursue a split was based on many factors, but chief among them was “simply put... personal happiness – over the last 9 years I have simply fallen in love with being at Dubsdread and it has ceased to be a business for me – it is my baby. Life can be really short and I want to enjoy what I do and who I’m with.”

“I have a love affair with our guests, I have a staff of incredibly talented and loyal people who I love to work with. Nothing has the character, history and feel of Dubsdread," Steve said. "

“To be able to come to work every day with the likes of GM Barbara Teal and Banquet Director Cathie Ashby is a dream come true – the awards we have won together and the legacy we are trying to build is genuinely fun and challenging. Cathie has consistently beat out the all the fine hotels for wedding and catering awards; and Barbara is winning a major food award every three months for The Tap Room – who wouldn’t want to be here every day for this? This is FUN!”

Steve has received many phone calls, emails, offers of financial assistance, advice, and just general love and support from friends and customers. "This has been a pretty emotional and trying experience - and I can't thank the College Park community enough for being so supportive."

Community Paper learned early on that there was trouble brewing and heard that there was a possibility that Steve might be forced out at Dubsdread. When we contacted Steve he did indicate that was a possibility, but that he was doing everything in his power to make certain he kept Dubsdread.

We were baffled that there even COULD be a problem, because Tap Room IS Steve Gunter. It is Steve Gunter's welcoming grin, his hugs, his concern for his customer's personal happiness, his devotion to giving us a clean, safe, comfortable place to gather with friends, eat and feel like it's our second home. Steve serves on the board of the College Park Partnership, he has donated space and served on the committees for Taste of College Park AND Feed The Need, and has provided space for countless benefits to help enrich others' lives and much more. Who could imagine Tap Room without him?

“Dubsdread is where I WANT to be – and I will be here as long as the City of Orlando and the people of College Park want me here. That I promise.”

Tap Room is located at 549 W. Par Street, phone 407-650-0100 or visit www.TapRoomAtDubsdread.com.

His intention was to recapture in a professional club, the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth.
Today, Paul Harris Society contributions to The Rotary Foundation support a wide range of humanitarian grants and educational programs that enable Rotarians to bring hope and promote international understanding throughout the world.
The Paul Harris Society is a special recognition program for Rotarians and friends of the Rotary Foundation.

Frank McMillan with Pam Potenza, Rotary Club of College Park President.

Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self." The Four Avenues of Service are Rotary’s philosophical foundation on which club activity is based.
First — Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
Second — Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
Third — Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
Fourth — International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.
Frank McMillan has exemplified outstanding service through club participation, his vocation, leadership in his community and church, and support of the international service projects of Rotary.
Frank is a Rotarian who “Walks the Walk.” He has been a mentor to me this year, and unstoppable every year. Today we salute you as our Rotarian of the Year!

‘Tis the Season to get in the Patriotic Spirit!

Marcia Fletcher-Kazmi, Debbie Goetz, Pam Potenza and Greg Vazzana
With Memorial Day and Flag Day behind us, and 4th of July ahead of us, we thought you might like to see how some folks in College Park get in the Patriotic Spirit!
If you wondered who put out the flags for Memorial Day around College Park, it was several Coldwell Banker agents wanting to spread a little patriotism. Marcia Fletcher-Kazmi, Debbie Goetz, Pam Potenza and Greg Vazzana really enjoyed putting out the flags and loved that their neighbors appreciated them. They hope to cover even more of College Park next year!

Kudos to Tap Room at Dubsdread

Steve Gunter, Owner of Tap Room at Dubsdread

February and March have been Award filled months for the popular College Park dining and wedding destination. The Historic Dubsdread Ball Room started things off by being named a “Best Reception Venue” by The Knot magazine for the fourth year in a row. This unprecedented award is voted on by brides registered with The Knot using a rating system based on food quality, service, and overall experience.

The second kudo was being named runner up for the prestigious Orlando Sentinel Foodie Award for Best Outdoor Dining – the sixth such award the Tap Room has garnered since opening in 2001.

Lastly, The Tap Room showed their off site catering skills by taking first place for Best Presentation at the Baldwin Park Food and Wine Festival – for the second year in a row.

Owner Steve Gunter reports, “The staff is enormously proud of what we do here – to have it validated three times in succession in three different arenas is extremely gratifying. I couldn’t be prouder of our Banquet Staff for the great job they do – they know it all starts with Customer service.”

Way to go Tap Room, Steve Gunter and the staff for bringing home even more awards to College Park. Tap Room is located at 549 W. Par Street, phone 407-650-0100 • www.TapRoomAtDubsdread.com

CASH-ONLY FAMILY MEDICAL PRACTICE REACHES TEN-YEAR MILESTONE
Bold Move to Refuse Insurance Payments Results in More Time to Treat Patients
Well-known Orlando family physician Rick Baxley, M.D. is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of a decision many said would destroy his medical practice. In March 2000, motivated by his desire to spend more time with patients and less time dealing with the pressures and paperwork from health insurers, Dr. Baxley downsized his large family practice and stopped accepting insurance. Today, his cash-only practice is thriving.
Dr. Baxley explained his decision 10 years ago in a letter to his patients. “I look forward to the day in the near future when you and I can sit and talk about what’s bothering you, not checking the clock to see if I’ve kept up with the number of ‘patient encounters’ I need to break even that day.”

Rick Baxley, M.D. is certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Family Medicine and named one of the “Most Admired Doctors in America”. In addition to his College Park Family Practice, Dr. Baxley also operates The Baxley Center for Executive Health Assessment that emphasizes a long-term commitment to wellness by providing patients with a snapshot of their current health status and providing information that allows them to make more intelligent decisions about their future.

EASTER EGG HUNT IN COLLEGE PARK - April 3, 2010

The College Park Neighborhood Association joins forces with the Easter Bunny and turn Albert Park into a colorful world of "hidden" Easter Eggs filled with goodies for the local children! Albert Park is located on the corner of Vassar and Edgewater next to Chase Bank (it’s the park with the gazebo).
Each year on the Saturday before Easter, hundreds of children and their parents gather in anticipation of hunting for the yummy eggs!
The event was held on SATURDAY, APRIL 3rd and began promptly at 9:00 a.m., and, believe it or not, the park was thoroughly clean by 9:10 a.m.!
Visit www.CollegeParkOrlando.org for information on the College Park Neighborhood Association.

WE'RE SORRY FOR TORTURING YOU!!!!
MAJOR typo in the April Community Paper! Our deepest apologies to the SHIFT program at College Park Baptist Church.

There will be adult supervision along merchants coming in to do mini-workshops on various topics such as cooking, bikes, skincare etc. There is also free torturing offered and free music lessons.
